Skincare In Summer – What To Focus On

When the seasons change it is important that we are changing our everyday routines to cater for the changes in the weather! We go from heavy coats to light summery dresses, we go from mulled wine to a refreshing spritz and our skincare routine requires the same switch up.

Throughout the wintertime, we mainly like to focus on nourishing skincare products to prevent our skin from being dry and dehydrated from being in and out of heated rooms into harsh winds. Whereas, in summer, we are likely to be spending more time in the outdoors and our skin is subject to the suns rays, sweat and grim building up throughout the day.

Therefore – we need to switch up our routine to cater for these changes! Below are The Modern Day Living Magazine’s top tips to be introducing into your skincare routine this summer.

SPF – SPF – SPF

We could say it 100x over – SPF is the most important step in our skincare routine, this is important at all times – but especially in summer. Opt for a lightweight SPF that is at least SPF50+, and make sure you’re reapplying every 3-4 hours, and even more so if you’re spending time in the pool or at the beach.

Hello Vitamin C – Goodbye pigmentation!

Vitamin C, again, is a product that we’re able to use all year round however if you haven’t got it in your skincare routine – summer is a great time to start. Vitamin C not only can assist with collagen production, but it will mainly help with preventing concerns such as hyperpigmentation and reducing any fine lines you might find from squinting in the summer sun.

Exfoliators are your friends

You never want to over-exfoliate, so it is important to listen to your skin and adjust depending on your own needs. However – during summer there is an increased build-up of sweat and grim and as a result, it is important to exfoliate more so that you’re ensuring your skin is free from oils and your pores aren’t blocked.
