Must try unisex fragrances!

Unisex fragrance has hit the beauty scene in a big way, and we’re all about it. The fragrance that we wear and love should be an extension of ourselves, a creative outlet whereby we’re able to tell a story by the delicate scent that lingers on our clothing. However, traditionally perfume was restricted to floral and sweet for women, and dark and earthy for men – unisex perfumes are changing the game. More and more brands are coming out with unisex perfumes that allow us to tell our own story without confining to a gender stereotype. If you’re new to the unisex fragrance scene, let us tell you a little bit about our top two.

  1. who is elijah – HIS / HER

Who is elijah is an independently owned fragrance house that is rather new on the scene, established in 2018 who is elijah has been rapidly growing and defying conventions ever since. The brand dares to be different, demands attention and is cruelty-free, gender fluid and hand-poured in Sydney.

Here at The Modern Day Living we got our hands on who is elijah’s HIS HER scent and were absolutely blown away. The perfume is said to blur the lines of femininity and masculinity and this couldn’t be more true. Think sensual and woody whilst being spicy, upbeat and fresh. The perfume promotes a warm feeling whilst boasting a bold and independent front.

In addition to the fragrance itself, the packaging is edgy, minimalistic and provokes a sense of class. A perfume that not only smells insane, but also looks amazing on your bedroom shelf? It’s a yes from us.

  1. Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne, 30ml RRP $106

Founded in London by Jo Malone in 1990 and then purchased by Estee Lauder in 1999, Jo Malone is a household name for candle, bath and perfume lovers worldwide. Jo Malone began Jo Malone London, in London, and the inspiration behind the brand came from her time as a florist. Jo would make floral soaps for her friends and family, and soon became fond of the fragrance scene.

Jo was an early advocate for the combination of fragrance through layering different scents on the skin, and this carries on through her unisex perfume range. As the range is designed to be layered and tailored to the individual, Jo Malone’s whole range is considered unisex, which is something that not many would know!

After being a long term lover of the Peony and Blush Suede scent, we’ve had the opportunity to give the Lime Basil and Mandarin Cologne a go, and it did not disappoint! This scent gives an unexpected twist to a modern classic. Peppery basil and aromatic white thyme, paired with lime gives the feeling of floating away with the caribbean breeze. The cologne threw slightly different scents off each of us here at The Modern Day Living, proving that the scent can be manipulated depending on the pH level of your skin.

Definitely not one for the faint hearted, this scent is bold and unique, evoking a feeling of strength and confidence.
