Activities For Your Children This Christmas Season

The holiday season is an exciting time for everyone, but especially for our little ones. Once we enter December, the Christmas spirit is alive and thriving, with the suspense building for the big day. This is a great time to engage your children and spend valuable time with them whilst they’re riding the Christmas high. Who knows – you might even evoke a family tradition of activities to do each Christmas, that your family may be able to continue with their future family and so forth.

Here at The Modern Day Living, we would like to bring you our favourite Christmas traditions that keep our children engaged, entertained and jolly until Santa arrives.

  1. Bake (or decorate only) gingerbread house

Decorating a gingerbread house is definitely up there with our favourite Christmas traditions, the excitement for the children creating their very own design on the gingerbread house is second to none. Depending on your skill base, you can make it from scratch or what we love to do when we’re struggling with time, is purchase a pre-made and formed gingerbread house that is a blank canvas. At the end of the day, the excitement definitely stems from decorating the house with the children’s favourite lollies.

2. Make place cards for Christmas day

The activity of creating place cards is great as it is applicable for most ages, and can be something that is still enjoyed when the children are in their teens and later. Sure, the designs will become of a higher standard as the year goes on, but it is a super fun activity to complete together and add a personal touch to the table setting. A bonus is that it means you’re choosing who sits where too, so you can sit next to who you’re dying to catch up with this Christmas.

3. Personalised Christmas cards for family

Creating Christmas cards is a great way to evoke your children’s creativity from a young age and will make receiving the card extra special for your nearest and dearest. You can seek inspiration for the design from previous cards,  or via the internet. Otherwise, if you’re happy for the kids to take the lead, leave it as a blank canvas!

4. Make your own Christmas tree decorations

We do need to acknowledge that if you’re serious about your Christmas tree aesthetic, this one might not be for you! However, if you like to focus on embracing the Christmas spirit rather than how the tree looks, your children will love creating their own decorations. Hot tip – you can purchase kits online whereby they can paint blank shapes such as trees and reindeer that are already designed ready to be hung.
