Interior design tips for every part of your house!

Home styling can be a daunting task for those who don’t enjoy making decisions. There are so many options, trends and paths you can go down when it comes to home styling so we’ve put together our top tips to keep you on the right track!

  1. Less is more

When it comes to home styling, less is absolutely more. If you clutter your home with too many style pieces, it will create a sense of chaos rather than elegance. Be clear with the direction you want to take, and select a few pieces that stand out in each space without overcrowding.

  1. The power of three

Odd numbers in general work best when it comes to design. Three is the magic number for us here at The Modern Day Living as it aligns with our last tip of less is more. If you have the number three in mind when it comes to coffee table props such as vases, candles, frames and even elements such as cushions, three is the perfect number. This forces the eye to move around the zone and creates visual interest.

3. Layer tonal shades

When it comes to bedspreads, cushions, even dining sets – rather than mix and match contrasting shades, we love the use of multiple shades of the same colour to level up the interior design of your home. Think warm shades ranging from browns to baby pinks, or even cooler shades of your greens/blues, if you keep it consistent it will make the room look polished and together.

4. Decorate with large plants

2020/21 saw the popularity of indoor plants skyrocket – which is a blessing to all homes! The inclusion of plants is the perfect way to make spaces in your home stand out, both indoors and outdoors. Although plants don’t cost a lot of money, you’ll want to make sure you look after your plants so they stay alive. If this is a big ask, opt for a forgiving indoor plant such as a snake plant.

5. Size matters

When it comes to homeware pieces such as art, or rugs – size absolutely matters. Oversized art and rugs are sure to make a big statement in your home. In addition to this, they take up space in the area which reduces the amount of interior styling you’ll have to complete in the zone. Our suggestion? Invest in an oversized rug or piece of art that you love and position them in the heart of your home.
