How to Hobby

When you’re a busy, modern day mama, it often feels like you barely have enough time to take care of everyone else – let alone yourself. However, if you can squeeze in the time (and so you should – you deserve it!), taking up a hobby might just change your life.

Having a hobby allows you to momentarily breathe and create space for YOU in your life, allowing you to rejoin the world (and your many responsibilities) with a renewed sense of calm.

Stephanie Gorton founded her business House of Hobby amidst a period of intense change in her life.

‘It began in my bedroom, mid-breakdown after having my heart broken for the 3rd time in 5 years. I was changing jobs at the time and updating my resume. It had a ‘hobbies’ section at the bottom and I was totally stumped. I had this crazy realisation that I’d spent so much of my life living for everyone else and pleasing everyone else, that I had no idea who I was or what I enjoyed.’

House of Hobby provides beautiful, creative workshops designed to give women some time out and the opportunity to trial a potential new hobby. They run workshops across all topics from pottery to painting, candle making to macrame and all of their workshops feature bottomless bubbles (for creative inspiration).

Many entrepreneurs experience a wonderful sense of relief when they start to dedicate more time to a hobby – one that eventually becomes their full-time business. Doing something you LOVE undoubtedly provides an array of benefits, and people who do pursue their hobbies generate a contagious energy that leaves others thinking ‘I wish I could do that!’

Studies have shown that taking up a hobby can improve productivity in other areas of your life – especially at work. So stop feeling guilty because you deserve that ‘me time’ to do something you love. Yet to find your extra-curricular passion? We’ve got you covered with some ideas to get started!
