Easy Ways To Get In The Holiday Spirit With Little Ones

The holiday season is here and tis the season to hang our wreaths, light our pine scented candles, wrap gifts for our loved ones, and celebrate! While little ones are probably most excited about opening their presents on Christmas Day, there’s plenty you can do to get them in the mood for the holiday season ahead of time. Here’s a few ways to spark some holiday
cheer with them:

Elf on the Shelf- Chances are, you’ve heard of Elf on the Shelf but maybe you don’t know how it works. First things first, you need your elf which can be ordered from Amazon. Everyday leading up to Christmas, place your elf somewhere fun around the house and have your little ones go on a scavenger hunt to find him! Stage your elf to do silly things like hide in your tree, pull a roll of toilet paper out, or eat some cookies.

Holiday movies– Of course, there’s nothing like curling up and watching a holiday movie. Some great ones that little ones will enjoy include Elf, The Grinch, and Klaus. Most holiday movies are available on Netflix or other steaming platforms.

Crafts- Little ones love to be hands on, and what a better way to get in the holiday spirit than crafts?! You can paint a plate for Santa’s cookies, build a gingerbread house, or even make your own paper garland to hang around the house. Pinterest is filled with ideas to keep your little ones busy and entertained.

Baking- While baking is fun for little ones year round, there are so many fun holiday themed recipes they’ll love. Try making cupcakes with Santa’s face on them, practice baking cookies to leave out on Christmas Eve, or make something new for a holiday celebration with family. One of the most fun parts of cooking is that little ones can make a mess. So, let them be little and worry about the clean up afterwards.

Local events– Chances are, there’s holiday events where you live that are sure to get the whole family in the holiday spirit. Just do a quick Google search or check on Facebook.

Giving back– While little ones may be most excited about the presents they’ll be opening this season, it’s a great time to start teaching them that giving back is just as fulfilling. An easy way for little ones to give back is to have them donate old toys they don’t use or clothing they no longer fit into. Let them fill a bag with their donations so they really feel like they’re the ones deciding what to donate.
